Shenkeng Old Street
Located a short distance from the city center, Shenkeng is ideal for a half-day trip. The old street, marked by a large autumn maple tree at its entrance, is easily reached by bus or public transport. Shenkeng is famous as the “hometown of tofu,” known for its clear water and traditional brine-based production.
The town is also known for four local specialties—tea, tofu, bamboo shoots, and black pork. Visitors can explore historic sites such as the Shenkeng Huang Family Yong’an Residence, listed among Taiwan’s Top Ten Historic Residences; stroll scenic tea and bamboo trails; dine at garden-style restaurants like Arouyang; or visit the nearby ferry crossing, part of the Danlan Old Trail and the Tea Trade Route to Dadaocheng.
